Things are going really well at Thorsminde Port these days, and the port itself is not afraid to admit that despite its location in West Jutland. Just months ago, German RWE chose the port as a service port for the Thor wind farm. But Thor will not be the only wind turbine project for which Thorsminde Port will be strategically important.

On Tuesday, Vattenfall announced that they have chosen Thorsminde Port as the base for the construction management of Denmark's next offshore wind farms, Vesterhav Syd and Nord, which are due to be completed at the end of 2023. Construction management will coordinate and manage the construction of the offshore wind farms, and 1-2 crew vessels will have their home port in Thorsminde, the port said in a press release.

 - Although we thought that we had achieved the greatest possible result with the establishment of RWE in Thorsminde, Vattenfall's decision that Thorsminde Port should also be a base port for them means that we have the feeling that another orange has landed in our turban. We are so strengthened in our belief that we can transform Thorsminde from a fishing port to also be an energy port, says Poul Willadsen, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Thorsminde Port.

Long preparatory work has led to agreements

The port of West Jutland has been working purposefully towards becoming an important wind port for a long time. The belief in this in Thorsminde has been decisive for the agreement with both RWE and Vattenfall

- We have been helped along the way by good and thorough preparation. We have made some strategic choices and were well prepared for Thor. This means we have also been prepared for other offshore wind farms and operators, says Lisette Sønderby, who is the port manager for Thorsminde Port and who is looking forward to welcoming both Vattenfall and their subcontractors to Thorsminde.

The port is excited about the opportunities that Vattenfall and RWE will bring to Thorsminde. There will be increased ship activity in the port and that fact, combined with more employees over a longer period, means more life in the port. Vattenfall is also looking forward to moving into Thorsminde.

- Thorsminde has really put itself on the map for offshore wind. We are happy to come to the city, initially in 2022-23, while we build the Vesterhav parks. It is a good start for the port before the Thor park is serviced.

Vesterhav Syd and Nord are part of the Energy Agreement 2012, which was concluded with a broad political majority in the Danish Parliament. The total effect will be 344 MW, of which 168 MW from Vesterhav Syd and 176 MW from Vesterhav Nord
