A federal judge in Boston has rejected the Trump administration's decision to halt all new wind energy permits. The judge believes the decision was arbitrary and contrary to the law. Reuters.
The order, issued on Donald Trump's first day back in office on January 20, ordered authorities such as the Department of the Interior, the Department of Commerce and the Environmental Protection Agency to put all new permits for both onshore and offshore wind on hold. According to the ruling, this was done without objective justification - the authorities themselves acknowledged that the pause was solely due to the president's direct order.
A group of 17 Democratic states and Washington, D.C. brought the case to court on the grounds that the authorities had not provided professional explanations for the change in course.
Judge Patti Saris ruled that the authorities could not legally fail to process applications indefinitely and noted that the decision was based solely on Trump's political decision and not on administrative necessity.
