It will cost 588 billion US dollars to rebuild Ukraine's economy. The World Bank, the United Nations, the European Commission and the Ukrainian government estimated this on Monday - the day before the fourth anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine - according to the Reuters news agency.

This is an increase of 12 percent compared to last year's estimate. This is due to more attacks on energy infrastructure. The assessment is based on data from February 24, 2022 to December 31, 2025.

This means that data from the intensified Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities in January and February are not included. Attacks that, according to Reuters, have left tens of thousands of people across Ukraine without heat, electricity and water during the coldest winter in decades.

In addition to the energy infrastructure, the transport sector and the country's housing are among the hardest hit sectors.

- The damage is enormous and constantly growing, the report says.

The total extent of damage is now more than twice as large as that reported in the first report in 2022. The damage is particularly concentrated around the front lines and in metropolitan areas, including in the country's capital, Kyiv.

Denmark ready with support

Denmark's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lars Løkke Rasmussen (M), said during a visit to Ukraine in September 2025 that Denmark supports Ukraine in both the short and long term.

- In the short term, it is crucial that we in Europe increase our military support and give Ukraine the best cards in our hand. That is why we are also intensifying cooperation between Danish and Ukrainian defense companies.

- In the long term, we must help Ukraine with reconstruction and reforms on its way to the EU, said Løkke in a press release.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj believes that Russian President Vladimir Putin has started World War III.

Ukraine and Russia are currently trying to negotiate peace with the United States as a mediator. The latest round of negotiations took place in Geneva, Switzerland, last week. Zelenskyj has refused to agree to cede land in the eastern part of Ukraine.
