The Port of Rønne has been refused permission to increase its electricity consumption and therefore cannot proceed with its plans for shore power for cruise ships and installation ships working with wind turbines. According to Port Director Lars Nordahl, the refusal from TREFOR El-Net Øst means that the port does not know when it will be able to access the necessary capacity. The request concerned a future consumption connection of 16 megavolt amperes, but the response did not contain any time horizon. This is reported by TV2 Bornholm.
- From the Port of Rønne, we have asked TREFOR El-Net Øst about a consumer connection to our shore power at 16 megavolt amperes in the future. We have been told that TREFOR cannot specify a connection time at this time. They cannot do so because there will be a lack of capacity either now or in the future. Therefore, we are currently in a situation where we do not know when we will be able to connect to shore power in the future, says Lars Nordahl, director of Rønne Port.
According to TREFOR, the reason is a lack of capacity in the submarine cable between Sweden and Bornholm. The cables belong to Energinet, and the criticism is that insufficient steps have been taken to ensure the necessary capacity for the island's development. At an information meeting last week, it was stated that there is no room to increase electricity consumption and that there are no plans for an upgrade that can meet increasing demand. For the Port of Rønne, the situation means that planned investments in land facilities have been put on hold, while uncertainty about future capacity remains.
