The government's announcement to investigate a general extension of one or more licenses in the North Sea towards 2050 is gaining support in Esbjerg, where oil and gas activities play a major role in the local business community. It says Judean West Coast.
I Today, the Tyra field, among other things, has a permit to produce until 2042, while the politically set end date for all Danish oil and gas production is 2050. An extension of existing permits could thus mean up to eight extra years of activity within the framework of the North Sea Agreement from 2020. Esbjerg's mayor, Jesper Frost Rasmussen (V), sees the government's announcement as an important signal to companies in and around the city.
- This announcement creates peace of mind regarding the framework conditions so that investments can be made in the fields. This will ensure many good jobs for companies in Esbjerg for the next many years, and that is very pleasing, says Jesper Frost Rasmussen, mayor of Esbjerg Municipality.
In Esbjerg, thousands of jobs are directly and indirectly linked to the oil and gas industry. The government has emphasized that any extension must take place within the framework of the North Sea Agreement and Denmark's climate goals, and the issue must now be discussed with the parties behind the agreement.
