The Consumer Ombudsman is reporting the electricity company Energi+ to the police for misleading consumers on their website. More specifically, for not "clearly and understandably" having provided information about a monthly fee of DKK 33.34.

"The lack of information about the monthly fee misled consumers and constituted a violation of the Marketing Act, the Consumer Ombudsman assesses," reads a letter from Forbrugerombudsmanden.dk.

The case concerns three electricity products from Energi+, where a monthly certification and service fee was not stated on the front page or the campaign page with price information. The information was only in the delivery terms and conditions and in material sent by email.

The Consumer Ombudsman assesses that this is not sufficient because the fee was not stated in the same place as the other prices.

- When consumers choose which electricity product they want, they must have clear and easily understandable information about what the product costs. This applies to all surcharges and fees that consumers must pay to have electricity delivered. The company must provide information about the price of the product so that consumers are not misled and make a purchasing decision on an incorrect or uninformed basis, says Consumer Ombudsman Torben Jensen.
