The electricity price in Eastern Denmark will increase significantly on Tuesday between 5 and 6 p.m.

According to a press release from the energy company OK, the total electricity price per hour will exceed DKK 7 per kWh, and in the quarter between 5:45 p.m. and 6 p.m. the price may reach up to DKK 10 per kWh.

This is the highest level since the most extreme days during the energy crisis in 2022, it says.

- A total electricity price of up to DKK 10 is extremely high and fortunately something we see very, very rarely. If you live east of the Great Belt, you really have to do what you can to minimize your electricity consumption on Tuesday evening between 5 and 6 p.m., says Troels Skipper, product manager at the energy company OK.

The high prices only apply to electricity area DK2, which covers Zealand and Bornholm. In Jutland and Funen, the hourly price during the same period is around DKK 2 per kWh.

- We often see differences between the electricity price east and west of the Great Belt. But the difference tonight is absolutely crazy and not something we see very often. So, for a period of time, Jutland and Funen residents will have to pay up to DKK 7-8 less for electricity than Zealanders and Bornholmers. That is remarkable, says Troels Skipper.

According to OK, it is still unclear what is behind the significant price increase during the period in question. A possible explanation could be incorrect bids from electricity traders in connection with the purchase of electricity between 5 and 6 p.m. It also varies whether electricity customers with variable electricity contracts are settled on an hourly or quarterly basis.
