Caroline Pontoppidan has been elected as the new chairwoman of Danske Rederier and replaces Torben Carlsen, who has held the position since 2023.
Danske Rederier announced this in a press release.
She will thus become the first woman to lead the organization. Pontoppidan has been deputy chairman for the past three years and is currently Group CEO (EVP), head of legal affairs and responsible for corporate affairs at A.P. Møller – Mærsk. According to CEO Anne H. Steffensen, the organization will thus gain a chairwoman with in-depth industry knowledge.
- Caroline has been a significant and dedicated member of the board of directors of Danske Rederier in recent years, and I am sure that she is exactly the right person to set the course forward. Caroline has many years of experience in shipping and knows the reality in which Danish shipping companies operate like no other. I am very much looking forward to the collaboration, she says.
Caroline Pontoppidan has a law degree from the University of Copenhagen and Duke University in the USA and was previously a partner in the law firm Kromann Reumert. She takes over the position with a board of seven members from various shipping companies, while Jan Rindbo from D/S Norden will become the new vice-chairman.

In a highly competitive industry, it is crucial that we as shipping companies have an organization behind us that understands our reality and can translate it into a political framework, says Caroline Pontoppidan, chairwoman of Danish Shipping Companies.
The board of directors of Danish Shipping Companies also consists of Jacob Meldgaard from TORM, Thorsten Jalk from ZITON, Søren Karas from ESVAGT, Tina Revsbech from Maersk Tankers and Mads Peter Zacho from Navigator Gas.
