Søren Gade (V) will be elected as interim chairman of the Folketing on Friday, which will reconvene after the election. He tells TV Midtvest.

- Tomorrow I will be elected as interim chairman of the Folketing, says Gade to TV Midtvest.

It is a formality that Gade is elected as interim chairman. Several parties have already stated that they are pointing to him. This has been described by both DR, TV 2 and Jyllands-Posten.

He will be interim chairman until Tuesday, when the Folketing reconvenes to, among other things, approve the parliamentary election, and a new chairman will be elected again. But a temporary chairman will probably be elected again on Tuesday.

According to Gade, it is about electing a temporary chairman of the Folketing, who can hold the position until a new parliamentary year begins in October.

Any complaints must be processed

In short, the chairman of the Folketing is at the head of the work of the Folketing. Among other things, the chairman is responsible for leading the meetings of the Folketing, and the chairman must ensure that parliamentary work is carried out in accordance with the rules of the Constitution.

According to the Constitution, the newly elected Folketing must meet no later than 12 weekdays after an election. This time, this is Friday, April 10.

The first meeting will be chaired by the chairman by age, and it is the leader of the Moderates, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, who is the member with the highest seniority. He has thus been a member of the Danish Parliament for 31 years and a little over six months.

At Friday's meeting in the Danish Parliament, not only will a temporary chairman be elected. A committee of 21 members will also be set up to review the elections. This committee will, among other things, handle any complaints about the Danish Parliament elections.

Gade adds that he does not yet know whether he will be elected as temporary chairman again on Tuesday. There is a deadline of 12 noon on Monday, when the parties must announce who they are nominating for the position.

Søren Gade (V) has faced criticism in the past parliamentary term for his dual role as Speaker of the Danish Parliament and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Esbjerg Port, with critics pointing out a potential conflict of interest and urging him to resign as Chairman of Esbjerg Port. Despite the criticism from several members of the Danish Parliament, Gade chose to continue in both positions with the support of a political majority.
