There will be safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz for two weeks if coordinated with Iran.  This is what Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, wrote in a post on the social media X.

- If attacks against Iran are stopped, our powerful military will stop their defensive operations.  For a period of two weeks, safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be possible if coordinated with the Iranian military and taking into account technical limitations, he writes.

He writes on behalf of Iran's Supreme National Security Council.

The message from Iran comes after US President Donald Trump presented a temporary ceasefire with Iran. He did so ahead of a previously announced deadline of 2:00 am on Wednesday night Danish time.

Trump presented the ceasefire in a post on his social media, Truth Social, an hour and a half before the deadline. Here it was stated that the US will stop the attacks on Iran if the country opens the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran's National Security Council said in a statement that "our fingers are on the trigger, and as soon as the enemy makes the slightest mistake, it will be responded to with full force". This is reported by Iranian state media according to the Reuters news agency.

Iran has received 15 points and sent 10 back

Araghchi also confirms that Iran has received a 15-point proposal from the US and sent a 10-point proposal back. According to Iran's National Security Council, the 10 points include an "acceptance of enrichment", writes Reuters. It is not clear what this means in detail.

The BBC has gained insight into the ten points. It states that Iran undertakes not to possess any form of nuclear weapons.

The US has defended its attacks on Iran both this year and in June last year by saying that it wants to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. Iran has always maintained that uranium enrichment is used for civilian purposes and not to acquire nuclear weapons.

Iran's Security Council further states that negotiations with the US will begin on Friday - April 10 - in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad. It further states that the talks do not mean an end to the war.

According to the Security Council, the negotiations could last up to 15 days and be extended by agreement.  Trump made threats on Tuesday that the AFP news agency called shocking.

- An entire civilization will die tonight and can never be brought back. I don't want it to happen, but it probably will, Trump wrote on Truth Social.
