Trump urges countries to source oil from Strait of Hormuz themselves

Britain and others who lack fuel must obtain it themselves and otherwise defend themselves, says Trump.

The countries that lack jet fuel due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz must obtain oil from the area themselves. Otherwise, they must buy it from the United States. This is what US President Donald Trump wrote on the social media Truth Social on Tuesday.

- Number 1: Buy from the United States. Number 2: Build up some belated courage, go to the Strait, and just take it. You need to start learning how to defend yourself, the United States will no longer be there to help you, just as you were not there for us, Trump writes.

The only specific country he mentions is Great Britain, which according to Trump has refused to get involved in the war in Iran.

- Iran has been practically destroyed. The hard part is done. Get your own oil, the US president continued.

The partial closure of the Strait of Hormuz has led to large increases in oil and gas prices, as one-fifth of the world's total oil and gas is transported via the Strait of Hormuz under normal circumstances. Only a few ships pass through the strait for fear of attacks from Iran's Revolutionary Guard.

This is not the first time that Trump has lashed out at other countries for not helping him in the Strait of Hormuz.

The situation in the strait arose after the attacks on Iran that the US and Israel launched on February 28 - according to analysts, without significantly consulting European allies.

Trump has also criticized limited access for US aircraft to allied air bases during the attacks, and on Tuesday he lashed out at France for behaving "very unwillingly".

- The country of France would not let planes full of military supplies fly over French territory on their way to Israel, Trump writes. He adds that it is something that the US will remember.

US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth held a press conference on Tuesday about the situation. Here he says, among other things, that more ships are now allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

At the same time, according to the news agency Reuters, he calls negotiations with Iran "productive", as the parties are exchanging views on the conditions for ending the war. The negotiations are taking place while the United States continues to put pressure on Iran - including with a significant troop buildup in the Middle East.
