Iran has not proposed a 10-day pause in attacks on its energy facilities and has still not given a final answer to a 15-point plan to end the war, unnamed peace mediators told The Wall Street Journal. It is not clear how many people the newspaper spoke to.

The announcement comes after US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he had put a pause on attacks on Iran's energy infrastructure until April 7 at 02:00 Danish time. Trump said the Iranian government had requested an extension of the deadline.

Iranian officials have said they are interested in negotiations, according to mediators The Wall Street Journal spoke to. However, the Iranian leadership has not yet made a final decision, the mediators told the newspaper.

The United States has presented a 15-point plan that, among other things, proposes lifting sanctions against Iran. In return, Iran must make concessions regarding its nuclear and missile programs and support for militias in the Middle East. Iran has supported Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Houthis in Yemen and Hamas in Gaza, among others.

Iranian officials have already demanded that the United States scale back its far-reaching demands in the 15-point plan before the country will agree to a meeting on a potential ceasefire. The mediators stated this according to The Wall Street Journal.

They added that Iran has ruled out making its missile program the starting point for the negotiations, and that the country will not commit to stopping enriching uranium forever.

Small chance of ceasefire

The likelihood of a successful ceasefire remains small, as both Iran and the United States maintain extreme demands that are unacceptable to the other side, is the assessment of the mediators. It was Pakistan that handed over the 15-point plan from the United States to Iran, The New York Times has written.

Oman has also acted as a mediator in the nuclear negotiations that took place between the United States and Iran before Israel and the United States jointly attacked Iran on February 28.

This is the second time that Trump has put the attacks on Iranian power plants on hold. On Monday, he also announced on Truth Social that he would postpone the attacks on the power plants for five days.

Iran has not yet commented on the new statement from the US president. Iranian spokespeople have so far denied that there are direct negotiations underway between the two countries.
