A district judge in Texas has dismissed a lawsuit that Elon Musk's social media company X had filed against a number of large companies - including Lego and Ørsted. This is reported by the news agency Reuters.

X accuses the companies of illegally boycotting X as an advertising platform. The lawsuit claims that at least 18 advertisers, through an initiative called the Global Alliance for Responsible Media, stopped buying ads on the then-Twitter after Elon Musk bought the website. This was previously described by the American media NPR.

X claims that this is an anti-competitive boycott that has cost the company billions of dollars. However, Judge Jane Boyle does not believe that the alleged conspiracy would constitute a violation of competition law, writes Reuters.

The group of companies had previously asked for the case to be dismissed. They believed, among other things, that X had not proven that they acted in a conspiracy. According to Reuters, the companies believe that they have independently chosen to find other places to advertise.

Elon Musk bought the then Twitter in 2022. He has since renamed the social media to X.

In addition to the Danish companies, Nestlé, Shell and Pinterest were among the companies sued. The Global Alliance for Responsible Media was started by the World Federation of Advertisers, which X had also sued.

The initiative is about safety standards that should ensure that advertisers' advertisements do not appear next to harmful content.

X believes that the advertisers' association was concerned that X would not meet the safety standards under Elon Musk's leadership, and that they therefore organized a boycott. Lawyers for X have argued, according to NPR, that the platform itself should be allowed to set security standards.
