The price of diesel continues to rise on Tuesday. A report from the car owners' organization FDM shows that the price of a liter of diesel is now 18.59 kroner. That is almost 40 percent higher than just over a month ago.

The price of diesel has - as has been the case for many other forms of energy - skyrocketed in the wake of the conflict in the Middle East. Attacks on energy infrastructure and a closure of the Strait of Hormuz have created uncertainty about oil supplies.

Ilyas Dogru, a consumer economist at FDM, writes on the social platform X that an escalation of the war and long prospects for a possible ceasefire are significantly affecting prices.

- This is unusual, it says in a post on Tuesday.

At the energy company OK, the list price of a liter of diesel on Tuesday hit 19.59 kroner. The list price is the official price of the gasoline companies. The pump price that customers encounter at gas stations may be different. For comparison, it reached its highest level at OK in 2022 with a list price of 18.29 kroner.

At that time, an energy crisis was unfolding in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February of that year. Russia deliberately limited the flow of gas to the rest of Europe in connection with the war. This created a shortage and subsequently rising energy prices.

In recent weeks, the price of gasoline has also risen sharply. However, not at the same speed as diesel. According to FDM, this is because Europe is more dependent on diesel imports, and the energy market therefore fears a shortage of this particular type of fuel.

The organization's statement shows on Tuesday that the price of a liter of gasoline is 16.19 kroner. At the beginning of March, it was 13.79 kroner.
