Even in the week when Thorsminde Port became a service port for the upcoming Thor wind farm, the mayor of Ringkøbing-Skjern, Hans Østergaard, is very optimistic, because Hvide Sande Port is already a service port for Horns Rev 3 and will be for the upcoming Vesterhav Nord & Syd.
- We see great potential in Vesterhav Nord & Syd, even though Thor has now gone to Thorsminde. I also think that other offshore wind farms will come. There is an area approximately 35 km off Hvide Sande. Of course, these are not projects that have not been finally designated yet, says Hans Østergaard.
He is also happy about the possibility of even more jobs within offshore wind due to the situation in the fishing industry.
- It is good when fishing goes the wrong way with Brexit and the migration of fish to the north. There is every reason to believe that more wind farms will come. And it will provide good jobs for Hvide Sande and overall a positive effect, he says.
The mayor is also clear that there are limitations to what is possible in Hvide Sande Port.
- We will not ship wind turbines in Hvide Sande. That will probably be Esbjerg's task, says Hans Østergaard, who sees a future as a service port for the port.
The connection to the wind industry
There are good reasons to believe that more wind is in every way for places in the waterfront municipality of Ringkøbing-Skjern.
- We already have Vestas here in the municipality with 2,000 jobs. Vestas also has their test center here, and we will have that in the future as well. It is clear that it is also something that provides good jobs, states the mayor.
