Equinor's head office will remain at its current location in Forus Øst. This decision was made after the board of directors completed a lengthy process of assessing possible locations in the Stavanger region. Instead of moving, the company has decided to carry out an extensive upgrade and renovation of the existing buildings, so that all employees in the region are gathered in one place. Equinor said in a press release.

The project involves reusing around 80 percent of the current building stock and implementing measures to make the head office more energy efficient. The renovation will take place in stages and is expected to be completed in 2030. The goal is to create better coherence between the buildings. As part of the project, it is planned, among other things, to move the main entrance to the southeast to strengthen the connection to public transport and bicycle paths.

- We have weighed up many dilemmas and considerations in this process and decision. I am convinced that staying at Forus Øst is a good choice. We have a proud history in the area, and I now look forward to being able to gather all of our 4,500 employees in an upgraded and renovated building. This will support close collaboration and a good working environment, says Anders Opedal, CEO of Equinor.

Forus Øst was chosen after Equinor had examined a total of twelve possible locations, which were then narrowed down to three specific alternatives: Forus Øst, Paradis and Elveparken in Sandnes. But the choice was made. According to the company, Forus has a central location in the region, where many employees live, and the area is close to both public transport and the airport.

- With the upgrade and renovation, we will have a modern head office. It has been an important consideration for us that the employees live scattered in the region, where Forus has a central location. It is close to public transport hubs and the local airport. Forus Øst has served us well for 40 years and will continue to do so in the coming decades, says Anders Opedal

The reason for the decision is that the lease for the current head office building expires in 2030. Equinor's head office activities are currently spread across four buildings at Forus, with a total of around 4,500 employees. The Forus Øst building was completed in 1981.
