THISTED: There are dark clouds over the municipally owned Hanstholm Port. The port can see a deficit of 18 million DKK and a debt of 626 million DKK as the harsh realities. The debt is due to a large port expansion in 2017, which the port's operations have not been able to support, as it has not yet generated new revenue. The port's chairman, who took office in May, calls the situation "terrible" and worse than expected. However, he believes in the port's future and has an idea of where the earnings should come from. This is reported by Søfart.dk.
- In my world, there is no doubt that the future of the port is offshore, i.e. offshore wind farms and becoming an installation port. But neither one nor the other is something that will happen in 2022 or 2023, says Michael Svane, chairman of the port.
However, for Thisted Municipality, which owns Hanstholm Port, there is a need for the bottom line to be in the black soon. The port has had a deficit for two years in a row, and if this continues for the next three years, the Port Act stipulates that the port's deficit will be transferred to Thisted Municipality.
