THISTED: The Danish Data Protection Agency has issued sharp criticism of the Port of Hanstholm in connection with a case of alleged industrial espionage against former sales manager Steen Hintze, which the port reported to the police in March last year, writes Nordjyske.
Although the police dropped the case, and a settlement was later reached between the parties, Djøf filed a complaint to the Danish Data Protection Agency on behalf of the former sales manager about the port. In connection with the case of, for example, the police report, the port had communicated sensitive personal information to the public, Djøf believed, which is now being upheld.
"After reviewing the case, the Danish Data Protection Authority finds that there is a basis for expressing serious criticism that the Port of Hanstholm's processing of personal information has not been in accordance with the rules in the Data Protection Act," the Danish Data Protection Authority writes in its decision, according to the newspaper.
The management of the Port of Hanstholm has since been replaced with a new director and a new chairman of the board. "We are taking the case seriously and are adapting to the decision. I have already taken the initiative to ensure that we do not end up in that situation in the future. We have a complete understanding of how we handle sensitive personal information now," says Michael Svane, chairman of the board of the Port of Hanstholm since May 1 this year, to the newspaper.
