The Danish Energy Regulatory Authority only partially approves Energinet's gas tariffs

Energinet gets the green light for tariffs up to 2031 – but must change the discount model.

The Danish Energy Regulatory Authority has only partially approved Energinet's method for setting tariffs in the Danish gas transmission system for the period from 1 January 2027 to 31 December 2031, partly because Energinet must change parts of the model. The Danish Energy Regulatory Authority states this in a press release.

The approval is only partial, partly because Energinet must change the method for calculating probabilities when setting discounts on interruptible capacity. At the same time, the Authority has refused to approve a method for an emergency supply tariff, as it is regulated according to rules other than the tariff rules.

- It is in the interest of the stability of the cross-border gas market that the players now have certainty about how the tariffs for use of the Danish transmission system will be set in the coming five years, says Carsten Smidt, Director of the Danish Electricity Supply Authority.

The decision has been made on the basis of EU rules in the area, and a number of central elements of the tariff method are approved. This applies, among other things, to continuing the uniform tariff method, so that all entry and exit points except storage are subject to the same tariff, and that the capacity/volume split is maintained at 100/0 percent.

In addition, multipliers for short capacity products are continued, and Energinet can charge the costs of the upstream part of the Baltic Pipe as a uniform non-transmission charge from all network users. At the same time, 100 percent discount on tariff to and from gas storage, which means that no transmission tariff is charged for transporting gas to and from storage.
