The Danish Environmental Protection Agency is launching a new measurement project to investigate emissions from a biogas and pyrolysis plant at Smidstrup in North Jutland. This is reported by Jyllands-Posten. The project will map which substances are emitted into the air, and the task is being put out to tender, while parallel analysis work is already underway in collaboration with DTU.

The initiative comes after reports from neighbors who are experiencing various symptoms. So far, measurements have shown that the plant complies with applicable limit values, and the health authorities have not demonstrated a clear connection.

The Danish Environmental Protection Agency states that the purpose is to ensure that nothing is overlooked: "The health authorities have not so far been able to demonstrate a clear connection between the plant's production and the symptoms experienced by citizens. The purpose of the analysis is to exploratoryly become more certain that nothing is overlooked in relation to the plant's emissions."

According to Jyllands-Posten, several citizens have, among other things, experienced a rash on the body, blisters in the mouth, headaches, nosebleeds and a flu-like feeling.

However, the owner denied that the facility makes people sick, and pointed to a lack of documentation when the newspaper spoke to him.

- On the other hand, 130 tests have been taken in the last year. We have reported to Hjørring Municipality and the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, and nothing has been found. I have 30 people employed at the facility who walk around there 40 hours a week. None of them have become ill, said Daniel Overgaard, among other things.
