THISTED: The largest construction project in the history of Thisted Municipality is currently underway at Hanstholm Harbour, where the east pier is being rebuilt and reinforced after major damage. The pier was originally designed to withstand 100-year storms, but just two years after its inauguration, it was hit hard by storm Malik in January 2022. The damage was so extensive that a thorough reconstruction was necessary. This is reported by Ligeher.nu.
The task started five weeks ago and is expected to be completed in November, weather permitting. The repair and reinforcement will cost 156 million. DKK, which the municipality will initially pay for itself. The final distribution of the costs will later be decided in an arbitration case between the municipality, consultants and contractors. The work is being carried out by Per Aarsleff A/S and Rohde Nielsen and is being carried out 24/7 to keep up the pace. The goal is that the construction will be able to withstand strong storms from the North Sea in the future.
- In order to be able to work on the construction, we have had to literally dismantle the pier and transport the large stones - one by one - onto land. We will then rebuild it in reverse order with cranes, dumpers and rubber goats. And reinforce it with Kubickpods, says Kurt Møldrup Madsen, chairman of Aarsleff.
