Spring sunshine brings the year's lowest electricity prices

Increasing amounts of sunlight have led to falling electricity prices in April, and prices are particularly low between 1 and 2 p.m.

April has offered the lowest electricity prices of the year so far. This is due to the sunny spring weather, which has caused solar cells across the country to produce more energy. This is stated by the electricity company NRGi in a press release.

Prices have been particularly low in the period 13-14. During that period, the price has been 22 øre per kilowatt-hour in Western Denmark, while it has been even lower in Eastern Denmark with 19 øre in the same hour.

The reason for the different prices is that the two areas are connected to different parts of the European electricity grid, which means that prices can develop differently from hour to hour. NRGi recommends taking advantage of the cheap electricity prices during the day and afternoon hours to save money.

- Most people may charge their car when they get home in the afternoon. But unfortunately, that is also when electricity is typically most expensive. If you can charge between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., you can save a lot on your electricity bill. You can also take advantage of the low electricity prices by starting your washing machine or dishwasher during the cheap hours, says Bo Halm Andersen from NRGi.

NRGi points out that there can be a lot of money to save by using electricity when it is cheapest, rather than when the price is highest.

- The difference between the cheapest and most expensive hours can be more than five times as much. And over a whole year, it will naturally add up. So my clear recommendation is that you make it a habit to check the electricity price and shift your consumption to the cheap hours, says Bo Halm Andersen.

The general price drop in Western and Eastern Denmark has been 20 and 28 percent, respectively. In Denmark, the electricity market is divided into two price areas. One is Western Denmark, which covers Jutland and Funen, while the other, Eastern Denmark, covers Zealand, Lolland, Falster and Bornholm.
