Energinet completes 150 kV cable between Herning and Videbæk

21 km of underground cable will strengthen the electricity grid and make room for more green power.

Energinet is ready to put voltage on a new 150 kV underground cable between Herning Sydvest and Videbæk. The 21 km long section is the second stage of a larger project that will expand the electricity grid in Central and Western Jutland and make room for more renewable energy and increasing electricity consumption.

The construction work began in the autumn of 2025 and was carried out under difficult conditions with wet terrain, frost and crossing both infrastructure and protected nature. In several places it has required extensive and technically demanding undercutting, Energinet states in a press release.

- It has been a complex construction work, where many considerations had to be combined into a higher unit. We worked in an area with wet terrain, where traditional excavation work has not been possible in several places. At the same time, we have had to cross both roads, watercourses and areas with protected nature - and this has required extensive planning and a number of technically difficult undercutting. The fact that we have come this far in a relatively short time is due to close and constructive cooperation with landowners, municipalities, the Danish Road Directorate and our contractor, Arkil, says Rune Bruun Mosbacher, project manager at Energinet.

Among the largest works was a 325-meter-long underboring under the Vorgod Å and Abild Å rivers. In addition, underborings have been carried out at the Herning Sydvest Højspænjingensstation and under Dronningens Boulevard in Herning in connection with road works on Route 15.

The cable has been tested and ready for operation. The final work with cleanup and restoration is missing, and compensation must be paid to affected landowners before the project is finally completed. The commissioning is also a prerequisite for Energinet to be able to proceed with the plans to dismantle the 150 kV overhead line between Struer and Herning, which is now entering a planning phase.
