The Port of Aalborg has not yet been hit by the increasing lack of electricity capacity. This is because the port is located in an area with strong 400 kilovolt connections and transformer stations, which for the time being ensure sufficient power. But the lead may prove to be temporary. Experience from, among others, Hirtshals shows that companies are already choosing ports with insufficient electricity supply, and according to port director Kristian Thulesen Dahl, the same situation may arise in Aalborg. This is reported by Søfart.
Therefore, the port is now investigating the possibility of producing its own electricity via solar, wind and batteries to both ensure future operation and relieve the load on the electricity grid. At the same time, the ports are calling for political action and a faster expansion of the electricity grid, among other things in light of EU requirements for shore-side power towards 2030.
- We are looking at whether the problem can be alleviated by local efforts. Can we develop an energy community in the port area, where we generate electricity ourselves? Can we make ourselves less dependent on the electricity grid and thus free up capacity for others, says Kristian Thulesen Dahl, director of Port of Aalborg.
