The Swedish government has issued an early warning on Tuesday about the risk of a shortage of jet fuel in Europe. The country's Minister of Energy and Industry, Ebba Busch, said this at a press conference according to the Swedish news agency TT.
- We will issue an early warning about the risk of a shortage of jet fuel, says the minister.
The reason is the war in the Middle East between Iran, the US and Israel.
- Even if we were to get a sustainable peace agreement in place tomorrow, it could take a while before the supply of oil and gas is restored, says Ebba Busch.
The war has resulted in a major drop in shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. Before the war in the Middle East, approximately one-fifth of all the world's oil and natural gas was transported through the strait when it was to be exported from the countries around the Persian Gulf to the rest of the world.
After the majority of shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz was stopped, the amount of oil and natural gas on the world market has decreased, which has caused the prices of oil and gas to increase significantly.
