There are now 600,000 electric cars in the Danish car fleet. This is shown by figures from bilstatistik.dk and marks another milestone in the development of the Danish car fleet. Mobility Denmark states this in a press release.
It has been a little less than six months since the number of electric cars passed 500,000, and thus the latest 100,000 have been added in a relatively short time. At the same time, the average CO2 emissions from newly registered passenger cars have fallen from 117 grams per kilometer in 2020 to 41 grams per kilometer in 2025. This corresponds to a decrease of 65 percent.
- 600,000 electric cars on the roads show how fast development can go when the framework is right. It is especially the economic incentives that have made it attractive and possible for many Danes to choose an electric car. This is important because it is clear to see how much the development has meant for CO2 emissions among new passenger cars, says Mads Rørvig, CEO of Mobility Denmark.
According to Mobility Denmark, the development is largely related to the political framework for car taxation. The organization also points out that a larger model range and technological improvements have contributed to increasing demand.
Mobility Denmark also estimates that there could be around 1 million electric cars in the Danish car fleet in 2027 if price levels remain at the current level. The organization also points out that the planned increase in registration tax from 2027 could slow down the development.
