New chairman of the Port of Hanstholm may be on the horizon

The mayor of Thisted leaves no doubt that work is underway to find a competent candidate for the chairmanship of Hanstholm Port, following Kristian Jensen's quick exit.

It has been almost a month since former top politician Kristian Jensen resigned as chairman of the Port of Hanstholm after just over a week in office. He was supposed to have helped to boost the port's plans for an energy cluster with PtX and methanol production, which would have made the fishing fleet green. That was not the case.

In Thisted Municipality, Mayor Niels Jørgen Pedersen (V) is optimistic about getting a new chairman for the Port of Hanstholm.

- It was a great pity about Kristian Jensen, but we are doing well in finding a suitable candidate. We are working on some exciting topics. We need a chairman with a large network and the right skills, says the mayor.

However, he cannot yet name a possible new chairman, but it indicates that another high-profile candidate may be on his way to the chairmanship.

- When you get up in this league, there are a number of things that have to fall into place. It will probably work, but of course we won't get another Kristian Jensen, says Niels Jørgen Pedersen about a type of candidate where it must first be clarified whether there may be any competence problems with other positions of trust before taking office.

Chairman must boost new business areas

While Hanstholm Port is traditionally a fishing port, there is now a need for other business areas. This is where the future chairman comes into the picture. A candidate is needed who can take on the task of green energy production from wind turbines to PtX together with Port Director Nils Skeby.

It also has something to do with the 650 million DKK. expensive port expansion, which was completed in 2020.

- The business case that underlies the port expansion was made on the fishing part. Now the fishing is going badly after Brexit, and there are fewer fish. This of course means that we have to focus on other business areas, says Niels Jørgen Pedersen.

He himself has chosen not to be part of the port's board, even though it is often a position of trust that falls to the mayor in the constitution.

- It has always been the intention that I should not sit on the board. I already chose during the constitution that it is the deputy mayor who should sit on the port's board. If you, as mayor, sit at the head of the table, there is an expectation that you will decide. I think that neither benefits the mayor, the port nor the city, says the mayor, before giving a short time forecast for a new chairman.

- I think it can happen very quickly, says Niels Jørgen Pedersen mysteriously.
