KØGE: Less than a year after a majority in Køge City Council in March 2025 asked the state to prepare an executive order for Energipark Vallø, the politicians have now withdrawn their support for the energy park, the municipality informs.
- Energipark Vallø is not the right project for the area - neither for nature, the local community nor the neighbors. Therefore, we are now stopping the planning process and withdrawing the municipality's support, says Mayor Ken Kristensen (V).
The Liberal Party already supported a proposal in September 2025 to stop the energy park, but at that time there was no majority for it. With the KV25 result, the composition of the city council changed, so that it now becomes a farewell to the controversial project.
- It is a matter that has meant a lot, and where we stood firm early on and said no to 18 wind turbines in Køge's beautiful nature, said Mette Wigand Bode (V) according to Sjællandske Nyheder at Tuesday's city council meeting, pointing out that many citizens also clearly expressed this position in the ballot box.
The minority in favor of energy park, called for a clear and realistic plan for how the municipality will then comply with the Climate Act.
- It is easy to say no and often the most understandable. But today's decision becomes tomorrow's concern. Because a no leaves a very central question: How do we shape Køge Municipality into a greener future? said Pernille Sylvest (S), while EL's Niels Rolskov spoke of "a gigantic political failure" on the part of the majority.
The commitment to Energipark Vallø was taken off the table with 17 votes against the minority's 10 votes.
The energy park was to contain both solar cells on land and wind turbines in the forest. The solar cell plant was planned to cover 250 hectares. The 18 planned wind turbines were to be 185 meters high.
