Several new city councils are skeptical of solar cells and wind turbines on land

Among other things, in Viborg, which has a new 2nd deputy mayor from the Danish Democrats, several renewable energy plants have now been put on hold.

VIBORG / FREDERICIA / KØGE: According to DR, in several new city councils, the handbrake is being pulled when it comes to renewable energy projects, and for example in Viborg, they have chosen to scrap 430 hectares of solar cells at a new energy park in Tjele county, putting a stop to 26 renewable energy plants, nine of which are in the first phase of planning. The maneuver is being spearheaded by the new 2nd deputy mayor Torsten Nielsen (DD), the media outlet writes.

The konstitueringsaftale in Viborg states, among other things: "The city council will for the time being stop planning additional renewable energy plants beyond those for which the city council has already adopted local plans. However, the planning that has begun for EnergiparkTjele will be maintained with the exclusion of solar cell plants. As for EnergiparkTjele, this will be maintained on the condition that the infrastructure in the area is solved in a satisfactory manner, including by new road routing."

However, it also appears from the agreement that the city council emphasizes the importance of the Green Tripartite, and that the city council will continue to work on realizing the objectives in the municipality's DK2020 climate plan and transformation plan towards self-sufficiency with energy in 2030.

Stop in other municipalities

In Fredericia, a new city council will remove the so-called opportunity zones that were designated for solar cells, and in Køge, politicians will slow down Vallø Energy Park, writes DR.

In Fredericia, where the mayor's post went from S to V, and where the Danish Democrats and the Liberal Alliance came in with one mandate each, the constitueringsaftalen was concluded between V, S, DF, SF, EL LA and DD. It states, among other things:

"The municipal plan must be adjusted to ensure that solar cell systems are placed on roof structures, when possible, rather than in the designated opportunity zones."

Also in Køge, the Liberal Party has taken over the mayor's post after the Social Democrats, who lost four seats. The Democratic Party (DF) came forward and won two seats, while the Danish Democrats were not represented.

Therefore, a new majority is emerging for a proposal to stop Vallø Energipark, which the Liberal Party helped propose in September.

From the minute from the city council meeting, it appears that there was no majority for the proposal at the time. Instead, an amendment from the Social Democrats to continue work on the energy park was adopted with 15 votes from S, SF, EL and R. In the new city council, the Radicals were eliminated, and with the decline for S, the three other parties behind the amendment now only have ten seats in total.
