After cancellation, Vattenfall now has the permits in order for Vesterhav Syd's onshore facilities

The Danish Environmental Protection Agency has granted Vattenfall and Energinet a permit for the onshore facilities in connection with the Vesterhav Syd offshore wind farm. The Danish Food Complaints Board revoked the previous permit in May 2021.

The work to build the Vesterhav Syd offshore wind farm off Hvide Sande is progressing. The wind farm will consist of 20 turbines, which will be able to produce electricity equivalent to the annual consumption of 170,000 households.

In connection with the offshore wind farm, the construction of several onshore facilities has been necessary. The facilities are located in Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality and consist of buried cables and electrical stations. In addition, a radar mast at Søndervig will be installed, which will enable the anti-aircraft lights on the wind turbines to only light up when there are aircraft nearby.

Energinet received the first permit for the onshore facilities in January 2017, but this permit was later appealed to the Danish Environmental and Food Complaints Board. The complaint did not have a suspensive effect, and Vattenfall and Energinet constructed the majority of the onshore facilities in the period 2018-20.

However, in May 2021, the Danish Environmental and Food Complaints Board made a decision in the case and revoked the original permit from 2017.

Since 2021, Vattenfall and Energinet have therefore worked to obtain new permits from the authorities. These permits have now been obtained, as the Danish Environmental Protection Agency has granted the final Section 25 permit for Vesterhav Syd's onshore facilities - also known as an EIA permit, Vattenfall states in a press release.

- It is a crucial step for Vesterhav Syd that we now have the Section 25 permit onshore. The onshore facilities have already been built, but we need formal approval before we can put them into operation, says Mathilde Damsgaard, Project Director for Vesterhav Syd and Nord at Vattenfall.

A similar renewed environmental assessment for Vesterhav Nord's onshore facilities is underway. The public consultation process in the north will be concluded on March 20. Vattenfall has had all necessary offshore permits in place for some time for both Vesterhav Syd and Nord.

Vesterhav Syd and Nord offshore wind farms must be fully operational by the end of the year at the latest
