A long-term process regarding the wind farms Vesterhav Nord and Syd is about to conclude. In February, the Danish Environmental Protection Agency initiated a new environmental assessment process for the onshore facilities of the Vesterhav Nord and Syd parks. This process has now reached such an extent that the final public phase for the onshore facility of the Vesterhav Syd park will be initiated.
The onshore facilities will enable the electricity from the offshore turbines to be sent to consumers via the electricity grid when the park opens in 2023 and is located in Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality. The environmental assessment covers all onshore facilities, including a radar system that will ensure that the anti-aircraft lights on the wind turbines only light up when there are aircraft nearby.
- Consideration for nature and people is extremely important to Vattenfall, and we have had a good dialogue with the Danish Environmental Protection Agency. We now look forward to hearing the public's perspectives on the Vesterhav Syd onshore facility, says Mathilde Lindhardt Damsgaard, project director at Vattenfall for Vesterhav Syd and Nord, in a press release.
The public can submit consultation responses to the Danish Environmental Protection Agency on the Environmental Impact Report and the permit for the onshore facility for the Vesterhav Syd Offshore Wind Farm from 12 December 2022 to 6 February 2023, Vattenfall informs.
Expecting commissioning next year
For the Vesterhav Nord onshore facility, the Danish Environmental Protection Agency expects to initiate the final public consultation phase in January 2023 and eight weeks ahead. Vattenfall expects the environmental assessment process for both parks to be completed by spring.
- We will begin the installation of the turbine foundations in February next year, and we expect the first turbines to be connected to the onshore facilities and thus the entire electricity grid from late summer. By December 31, 2023, we will be ready to deliver fossil-free electricity from all turbines in both parks, says Mathilde Lindhardt Damsgaard.
The offshore wind farms Vesterhav Syd and Nord must be fully connected by the end of 2023 at the latest and will have a total capacity of 344 MW, which corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of more than 350,000 Danish households.
