Michael Hannibal has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) for a period of two years. This was announced at a board meeting in London. Hannibal is a partner in Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and CCO. of Stiesdal Offshore. This is what GWEC writes. Hannibal takes over the position from Jonathan Cole, whose term of office is expiring. This is what GWEC states in a press release.
- It is an honor to take on the role of Chairman of the Global Wind Energy Council at this important time for the wind industry. The industry has delivered record growth and is expected to continue. Our focus at GWEC will be to accelerate this growth in new markets worldwide, says Michael Hannibal, CEO of Stiesdal Offshore.
He was previously CEO of Siemens Offshore Wind and has over 20 years of experience from the renewable energy sector, including a central role in the development of the first floating offshore wind turbine in 2009. Michael Hannibal joined Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners as a partner in 2017, where he became head of the company's offshore area. In April, he joined Stiesdal Offshore as Commercial Director with a main focus on accelerating the company's floating offshore wind technology. This was in continuation of a partnership between CIP and Stiesdal Offshore on the development of floating offshore wind projects.
- We are pleased to welcome Michael Hannibal as the new Chairman of the Global Wind Energy Council. This is an exciting time for the wind industry, with new markets in APAC, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa developing rapidly, while mature markets are working to remove bottlenecks and accelerate deployment, says Ben Backwell, CEO of GWEC.
