In 2012, more than ten years ago, the political decision was made to build the offshore wind farms Vesterhav Nord and Syd, which will be located off the coast at Harboøre and Thyborøn, and Hvide Sande and Søndervig, respectively. On Monday, Vattenfall, which is responsible for building the wind farms, was able to reach a milestone for the project when construction work was officially started by placing the first buoys that mark the areas where boaters are not allowed to pass during construction work on the farms, writes TV Midtvest.
- We are looking forward to the farms being out there and strengthening Denmark's security of supply. But the work of preparing the construction has been underway for a long time, says Arne Rahbek, who is responsible for Vattenfall's local cooperation regarding the wind farms.
Vesterhav Syd will be located 10 km from land, while Vesterhav Nord is located between 5.5 and 10 km from land. The wind farms cost a total of 5.7 billion DKK to build and will have a total effect of 344 MW, of which 168 MW is at Vesterhav Syd and 176 MW at Vesterhav Nord. By the end of 2023, Vesterhav Nord and Syd are expected to be ready to supply fossil-free electricity to 350,000 households.
