Five Danish companies are among the world's most sustainable. This is evident from the annual top 100 list, which is produced by the Canadian analysis and research company Corporate Knights, in which listed companies with a turnover of more than one billion dollars are assessed and ranked according to how sustainable they are.
On this year's list, Vestas is ranked third, thus falling one place compared to last year's list. Two years ago, Vestas topped the list.
Ørsted also falls back to 17th place compared to a ranking of 13th last year. Ørsted can still be proud of being the world's most sustainable energy company.
- We are pleased to be recognized by Corporate Knights as the world's most sustainable developer of green energy. It takes ambition, thoroughness and strong partnerships to work seriously with sustainability – and it is crucial in our work to create a world that runs exclusively on green energy, says Ingrid Reumert, Senior Vice President and Director of Communications and Sustainability at Ørsted
Also Chr. Hansen manages to squeeze into the top 20 with a ranking of number 17, while Novo Nordisk is number 53 and Novozymes is number 58. Rockwool was on the list in 2023, but is no longer on the list.
DI: Danish companies at the forefront of green solutions
Marie Gad, deputy director for global development and sustainability at the Confederation of Danish Industry, says about this year's list:
- It confirms that Danish companies are at the forefront of green, sustainable solutions, and we can be proud of that.
- These are companies that not only contribute to solving some of the world's biggest challenges, but also have the green ambitions at the top both here and in other international rankings, she says.
The ranking is made according to a number of criteria, some of which are general and others are industry-specific. A total of 6,733 companies have been analyzed.
This year's list is topped by Australian Sims Ltd, which extracts and recycles metal from scrap. The full list can be seen here.
