THISTED: Thisted Municipality has now found the man who will head the board of Hanstholm Port. And it will be an experienced man, so the choice has fallen on Michael Svarre, who can write 16 years as industry director for DI Transport and director of Danske Vognmænd on his CV. He also sits on the board of directors for Bornholm and Aarhus Port.
- We are incredibly happy that Michael Svane is ready to head the Port of Hanstholm. He comes with a very broad experience within transport, logistics and port operations, and he has a very large network from his many years in the transport industry. I am convinced that both will benefit the development of Hanstholm, says Mayor Niels Jørgen Pedersen (V) in a press release.
Following a turbulent process, where former politician Kristian Jensen announced his resignation shortly after his appointment to instead become director of Green Power Denmark, Mayor Niels Jørgen Pedersen looks forward to quickly getting Michael Svane to the table in decisions regarding the development of Hanstholm Port.
- In addition to the expansion of the port, which has just been completed, there are great ambitions to develop new business opportunities in Hanstholm. The daily operation as a fishing port must continue to be ensured, but the potential is there to become the first CO2-neutral fishing port in Europe. We believe that Michael Svane is the man who can now create the growth and develop the jobs that have been created, says Niels Jørgen Pedersen.
Should be a powerhouse for green transition
Michael Svane, who in December last year left his position as director of DI Transport to become an independent consultant within transport and infrastructure, looks forward to leading the development of the Port of Hanstholm in the coming years.
- My vision is that in four to five years, Hanstholm will not only continue to be a significant fishing port. It is also a service company and a powerhouse for the green transition, and the fuel that ships will sail on in the future. I see that the port can become a role model for other ports on that front. It is an extremely important task that can create massive development in the entire area. I am looking forward to starting this work with almost childlike enthusiasm, says Svane.
Michael Svane is one of four business representatives on the Hanstholm Port Board, appointed by Thisted Municipality. He will officially take up the position as chairman on May 1, 2022.
