He has been working on it for several years, and on Wednesday Svend Erik Kristensen finally got a much-needed success. This is how he sees Wednesday's decision by the compromise parties in Aarhus City Council to put a planned expansion of the Port of Aarhus on hold for a number of years.

Sven Erik Kristensen is the chairman of the association Protect Aarhus Bay, which was formed in 2017 when the municipality announced plans for an expansion. Now those plans have been put on hold.

- I am a very happy man. You can be absolutely sure of that, Svend Erik Kristensen states to TV2 Østjylland and elaborates:

- It is a huge victory for both the marine environment and the citizens of Aarhus. It is fantastic that instead of pouring three billion kroner worth of soil and concrete into the Aarhus Bay, the project is being put on hold and the money can be used more sensibly.

Sven Erik Kristensen had also expected that the project would be stopped after the Planning Appeals Board rejected a local plan for the expansion in May.

- That is a natural consequence. I see it as a dead end, because you cannot document a need for expansion - not even in five years. Now we have to make optimizations on existing areas instead, says Svend Erik Kristensen.

According to Svend Erik Kristensen, among other things, we have to change cranes that can stack more containers on top of each other than the cranes we have now, which can stack two floors.
