Energinet's list of unprotected gas customers is shrinking

Fewer companies risk having their gas disconnected in a crisis after higher consumption limits.

The number of companies that may be affected by interrupted gas supply in a serious crisis situation will decrease in the coming gas year. Energinet reports this in a press release.

A total of 109 outlets are on the list of non-protected gas customers for the gas year 2026/2027, compared to 136 the year before. Among the companies on the list are Arla Foods, Carlsberg Supply Company Denmark, Danish Crown and Novo Nordisk.

The decrease is related to the fact that the limit for when a gas customer is categorized as non-protected is being raised from 0.99 million m³ to 1.27 million m³ annually. This means that fewer companies exceed the limit.

The list covers the largest gas-consuming companies and is prepared according to rules from the Danish Energy Agency and common European regulations that are intended to ensure gas for vulnerable consumers such as households and heating plants in the event of a serious supply crisis.

The list has not yet been activated. If the crisis level Emergency is declared in the Danish gas system, the companies on the list are not guaranteed gas supply, but this does not necessarily mean that the supply will be interrupted. Any reduction can be made in whole or in part with 72 hours' notice.
