Bornholms Energi & Forsyning (Beof) has entered into a new agreement with Energinet to operate the reserve supply on Bornholm in the period 2027-2031. The agreement means that Beof must continue to secure the power supply if the submarine cable to Bornholm fails. No other companies bid for the task, and therefore the price of the contract will not be published. This is reported by BornholmsTidende.

However, the new agreement improves the finances of Bornholms Energi & Forsyning. In the current agreement for 2022-2026, the company has received a fixed annual fee of almost 32 million. DKK, but according to Beof, this has not been enough to keep up with the increasing costs. The current agreement was concluded after a tender in 2021, where Beof was up against a competing player who wanted to establish an alternative emergency supply with generators outside the power plant. The competition pushed the price down, and Beof subsequently had to write down the value of Bornholms El-Produktion by 50 million. DKK in the accounts for 2021.

- With the current agreement, we have not been able to fully cover the costs at the rate they have developed. So it is positive for our economy that we are switching to cost coverage, says Julius Kofoed, Head of Commercial Infrastructure at Beof.

The upcoming agreement means that Bornholms El-Produktion will cover its costs as well as a return on the capital tied up in the plants. The reserve supply is operated from the power plant in Rønne, where, among other things, older diesel engines can be started up, even if all of Bornholm loses power. Beof's upcoming 10 MW battery will not be part of the reserve capacity that Energinet requires to be made available. According to Beof, this is because the reserve supply must be able to produce electricity for an indefinite period of time.
