The electricity company N1 will take over ownership of the electricity grid in Kongerslev south of Aalborg from 1 July 2026. In future, N1 will be responsible for the operation and development of the electricity grid for the approximately 900 grid customers in the area. This is stated by N1 in a press release.

The grid customers will continue to receive their electricity bills from their current electricity supplier, but the responsibility for securing the power supply will be transferred to N1.

The sale is part of Verdo's new focus strategy, where the company will concentrate on district heating, water supply and operation of the combined heat and power plant in Randers.

- We have just launched a new focus strategy for Verdo because we want to concentrate on our core task, which is district heating, water supply and operation of our combined heat and power plant in Randers. At the same time, society is facing a major electrification that requires major investments, and therefore it is a very good agreement for all parties that it will now be N1 that will ensure stable operation and active development of the electricity grid in Kongerslev in the future, says Jesper Barslund, CEO of Verdo.

N1 currently operates the electricity grid for around 820,000 households and businesses in Jutland. With the acquisition of EL-NET Kongerslev, the supply area will be expanded by an additional 900 network customers.

According to N1, the area in and around Kongerslev is already positioned as a small island in N1's supply area, and therefore there are some obvious synergy effects by merging the two networks - both for the customers and for the benefit of the green transition.

- We have really started to see that the Danes are significantly increasing their electricity consumption, and as we get more renewable energy into the system and become more independent of foreign energy sources, this requires massive investments in our electricity network in the coming years so that we can continue to count on high operational reliability. Therefore, scale is a great advantage, and we see the acquisition of EL-NET Kongerslev as a natural part of the consolidation that will also ensure an efficient and robust electricity network in Jutland in the future, says Lise Bering, CEO of Elnetselskabet N1.

The new network customers will also become cooperative members of Norlys, which owns N1. This will give them the opportunity to run for the Norlys board of directors election in 2027.
