NKT's cable accessories factory in Nordenham, Germany, has become the company's first production facility with zero CO2 emissions in Scope 1 and 2. NKT announced this in a press release.

The milestone was achieved by, among other things, replacing company cars and forklifts powered by fossil fuels and phasing out natural gas for heating. Heat pumps powered by renewable energy have been installed instead.

- We are very pleased with this result, which marks an important milestone in our efforts to reduce CO2 emissions as a company. The consumption of natural gas is a significant source of our Scope 1 emissions, and it is crucial for us to phase out natural gas and use emission-free alternatives, says Anthony Abbotts, vice president and head of sustainability at NKT.

According to NKT, the measures are expected to reduce emissions by around 576 tonnes of CO2e per year. The project also includes energy efficiency improvements, including heat exchangers on injection molding machines, so that the factory can reuse process heat.

NKT's factory in Nordenham employs approximately 390 employees and produces cable accessories for, among other things, medium voltage.
