LOLLAND: Several current and former politicians in Lolland City Council are raising serious criticism of the balance of power in Lolland Municipality. According to the politicians, it is in practice the administration and not the elected officials who set the direction in key matters. This is reported by Folketidende.

Among other things, the criticism is that decision proposals often come from the administration without alternative proposals, impact calculations or adequate finances. According to the politicians, this means that they regularly make decisions on an insufficiently informed basis.

A specific example is the plans for solar parks and wind turbines, where several politicians experienced that agreements with the energy company European Energy were concluded before the city council felt truly involved. The case led to a large citizens' meeting, where many citizens believed that the decisions had already been made.

The criticism is also directed at the municipal director Thomas Knudsen, who has been in office since 2007. One politician says that if the municipality had been a private company, they would not have kept a director for so long during negative developments.

Thomas Knudsen rejects the criticism. He maintains that it is the city council that has the responsibility and the final say, and that the balance of power can be changed politically if the city council so wishes. However, he does not want to discuss the matter publicly, but only directly with the city council.
