HADERSELV: Haderslev Municipality will give citizens the opportunity to vote on the location of wind turbines and solar panels. The proposal will be put forward for an upcoming meeting of the municipal council, where a civic majority will let citizens in affected areas have their say before decisions are made about new renewable energy plants. The votes will only be indicative, and it is still the politicians who make the final decision. This is reported by TV Syd.
This is therefore a model that is similar to the one that Tønder Municipality has recently abandoned after criticism and unrest. Tønder Municipality was the first in the country to introduce local referendums on energy projects, but the experience led to dissatisfaction among both citizens and politicians. Therefore, a majority in the municipal council has since chosen to abolish the scheme again. Nevertheless, Jens Friis Felber (V), who is chairman of the Technical and Environmental Committee in Haderslev Municipality, believes that the initiative makes sense in Haderslev.
