The Mayor of Copenhagen, Sisse Marie Welling (SF), has been elected as the new European Vice Chair (ed. vice chair of the board) of the international climate network for large cities, C40, the Municipality of Copenhagen informs. The Mayor has been elected by the other European cities and will thus represent 18 of the continent's large cities.
This strengthens Copenhagen's international position as a green pioneer city, the municipality assesses. With a focus on urban development, including climate-friendly, affordable housing and green areas, Sisse Marie Welling points out that international cooperation between cities is crucial in the climate fight.
- We are in the midst of a serious climate crisis, which we can only solve by working closely together internationally. C40 plays a central role in spreading climate solutions across cities and continents, so I look forward to representing Copenhagen and Europe in this work, says Sisse Marie Welling. She takes over from former Paris mayor Anne Hildalgo.
