European Energy is upgrading the solar park at Stouby in Randers Municipality to a hybrid plant and has entered into an agreement with Twig, which will be responsible for the balance of the plant. The agreement includes both solar production and battery storage, which will be integrated into the existing plant. This is stated by European Energy in a press release.

The existing solar plant has a capacity of 88 MW and will be expanded with a battery plant of 28 MW and 112 MWh. The upgrade means that the plant can combine production and storage of electricity in the future.

With the battery, the plant can store electricity during periods of high production and deliver it when demand increases. This provides more flexible operation and better utilization of electricity production.

- As hybrid renewable energy parks become more widespread, it is becoming increasingly important to use flexibility to deliver electricity when it is needed most. This agreement with Twig helps to optimize the Stouby plant so that electricity can be shifted to peak hours, which supports the electricity system and can help reduce prices for customers when consumption is highest, says Jens Peter Zink, Executive Vice President at European Energy.

As the balance responsible party, Twig will handle forecasts and market obligations for both electricity production and the battery. This will ensure that the plant meets the requirements of the electricity grid.

- Adding battery storage to the Stouby solar park increases both the optimization complexity and the financial possibilities of the plant. We look forward to balancing and co-optimizing the PV and BESS plants across energy and system service markets in close collaboration with European Energy, says Jonas Stampe, Head of Business Development at Twig.
