Green Power Denmark supports the sharp criticism that the Danish National Audit Office presented on Thursday of Energinet's expansion of the transmission grid in the period 1 January 2023 to 30 June 2025. Criticism is the second most serious level on the state auditors' grading scale, and the audit describes the management as very unsatisfactory and points to extensive delays in the projects. it
According to the Danish National Audit Office, around 70 percent of the projects are delayed, and at the same time Energinet only has a partial overview of the reasons. The criticism is also directed at the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities, which, according to the investigation, has reacted too late, even though the problems have been increasing. The delays have already cost the expansion more than 10 billion kroner. more expensive and at the same time slows down the green transition.
At Green Power Denmark, the criticism is not surprising, and the organization points out that the challenges have been known for a long time, and that the situation therefore calls for political action.
- The National Audit Office criticizes that Energinet has systematically underestimated how long it takes to implement their projects. We can recognize this, and that is why we are in the current situation with a lack of electricity grid. We have said for several years that the transmission grid should receive greater political attention. We have proposed solutions that Energinet has been able to move forward with within the existing framework, but far too little has happened, says Kristian Jensen, CEO of Green Power Denmark, in a press release.
Calls for emergency plan
At the same time, Green Power Denmark points to the need for clear political priorities after the connection of large electricity consumers has been temporarily paused. Specifically, the business organization is now calling for an emergency plan that can speed up the expansion of the electricity grid, including more transformers, strategically placed batteries and a more flexible investment process.
- The emergency plan must include strategically placed batteries and more transformers, so that more power can be supplied to the decentralized grid. In addition, the slow investment process must be smoothed out, and finally, a future government should make a political decision on strategic transmission lines so that all of Denmark can receive green power, says Green Power Denmark's CEO.
The State Auditors also emphasize that the pace of expansion must more than double from 120 km to 250 km annually if the goals towards 2050 are to be achieved, while Energinet states that measures have been taken to address some of the criticism.
