A new tourist experience on the water will bring visitors closer to the 20 offshore wind turbines at Middelgrunden off Copenhagen. The Middelgrundens Windmill Guild, in collaboration with the shipping company Spar Lystfiskeri, offers guided boat trips to the wind farm. This is reported by Politiken.
The trips last two hours and sail from the port of Copenhagen with room for up to 72 passengers. On board, a member of the Windmill Guild will act as a guide and tell about both the turbines and Copenhagen seen from the sea.
- The idea is to create a new tourist attraction in Copenhagen. We have a lot of tourists in the city. We hope that this is something that can market Copenhagen in the long term, says Erik Christiansen, chairman of the Middelgrundens Windmill Guild.
The Windmill Guild was founded in 1997 as a citizen-driven initiative in connection with the opposition to nuclear power. Today it is still the world's largest wind turbine cooperative with several thousand co-owners.
The turbines have since become a significant landmark for Copenhagen. According to the Windmill Guild, the area around the turbines has also developed, so that today there is a rich animal and plant life in the sea around them. With the initiative, the guild wants to combine the promotion of green energy with tourism and give visitors a new entrance to the city.
