Applications for heat pump subsidies already surpass 2025

After a few months of application window, more Danes have applied for heat pump subsidies this year than all of last year.

Something may indicate that rising oil and gas prices are causing more Danes to look the way of heat pumps. From February to April 30 this year, 9,352 people have applied for support from the so-called heat pump pool. That's 822 more than for the entire application period in last year's support pool. This is shown by figures from the Danish Energy Agency, writes TV 2.

The agency's heat pump pool opened on February 5 with around DKK 120 million in the pool. Including funds from last year, commitments of DKK 216 million had been made on April 30, the media outlet writes.

The heat pump pool is designed to make it more attractive for homeowners to switch to heat pumps from, for example, oil and gas boilers. You can get between 17,000 and 27,000 kroner in support – depending on the heat pump solution.

According to the Bolius Knowledge Centre, it can cost between 120,000 and 150,000 kroner to have a heat pump installed. Last year, commitments were made to over 7,300 homeowners who applied for support for a new heat pump.

- Regardless of whether you live in an older house or a newer building, a heat pump can often be an obvious solution. As long as your house is a year-round home without access to district heating, and you heat with oil, gas, electric heating or a bio-boiler, you can apply for a subsidy, the agency writes on its website.

The conflict in the Middle East has pushed up the price of oil and gas in recent months. In April, this prompted the European Commission to propose that member states provide subsidies to replace gas and oil boilers with heat pumps and solar cells.

According to the European Commission, the goal is to protect consumers and businesses from sudden price increases and thus limit the socio-economic consequences of the Iran war.

In Denmark, there is also a "decoupling pool" where you can get a subsidy of 10,000 kroner to have your gas boiler disconnected.
