The expansion of data centers in Denmark increases the need for stable grid connections, and therefore NKT has entered into a collaboration with the Swedish infrastructure specialist AKEA to connect three new data centers in Greater Copenhagen to the electricity grid. NKT states this in a press release.

The three data centers will be connected to the public electricity grid via a separate cable route of either 50 kV or 132 kV. NKT has been responsible for the entire delivery, including production of cables and accessories, civil work, installation, commissioning and coordination of the projects.

According to NKT, electricity consumption from data centers in Europe is expected to increase significantly in the coming years due to, among other things, cloud computing, artificial intelligence and increased digitalization.

- Data centers have become a central part of society's infrastructure, and this places high demands on them all the way around. NKT's strong engineering expertise and focus on delivering on time have made them a trusted partner for us. Together, we have ensured stable grid connections that can support the growing demand for digital capacity in the region, says Emilie Condrup, CEO of AKEA.

NKT also points out that the expansion of data centers is putting increasing pressure on the electricity grid, and the company expects to complete capacity expansions of the production of medium-voltage cables at the factories in Denmark and Portugal this year.

According to NKT, the collaboration with AKEA is intended to strengthen the company's position within projects where security of supply is crucial.
