AARHUS: The Corona crisis and the subsequent lockdown of Denmark have put large parts of Denmark on hold. But the pause can also bring opportunities, and the Port of Aarhus has now opened up the possibility of initiating a number of construction projects. Together with already planned projects, the Port of Aarhus plans to launch investments worth two billion DKK.

Among other things, it has been decided to maintain the construction of a ferry terminal for the Molslinjen, and the upgrading of Østhavnsvej will continue almost unchanged.

- We are implementing both projects so that we both maintain the jobs and ensure that the Molslinjen can move from the city to Østhavnen in October this year. In addition, we are making room to move 1.3 million cars away from the city center, as they will in future have to drive along Østhavnsvej and via Marselis Boulevard to and from the port, says Customer Manager Nicolai Krøyer in a press release.

In addition, the Port of Aarhus is planning an office building on Mellemarmen with 26,000 floor space meters with MT Højgaard as the developer on the Port of Aarhus areas.

In addition, there are opportunities to initiate the construction of the Marselis Tunnel, as there are several positive perspectives in getting the construction started as quickly as possible, says Nicolai Krøyer.

- On the one hand, a decision to initiate the construction will contribute significantly to employment in both the consulting and construction industries. There are many jobs in a Marselis Tunnel. And on the other hand, the tunnel is also a contribution to ensuring a green transition on the other side of the corona crisis. Sea transport is more sustainable than land transport, but more sea transport also requires more trucks to get to and from the port, he says.
