VindØ consortium calls for progress in energetic tender process

26. JAN 2022 14.52

The parties behind the VindØ consortium, Andel, PensionDanmark, PFA and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, who want to build Denmark's future energy island in the North Sea, are not satisfied with the current pace of the process. The consortium states in an open letter in Berlingske that if a tender is launched this year, the first three GW of the project could be ready as early as 2027, rather than the current target of 2033. This would give Denmark a significant technological lead over our neighboring countries.

"The agreement to build the energy island was passed in the Folketing a year ago. And since then too little has happened. At the time of writing, it is unclear how and when the tender process will take place, and it has been postponed several times. Neither Denmark nor the climate can benefit from this," reads the letter signed by CEO of Andel Jesper Hjulmand, CEO of PensionDanmark Torben Möger Pedersen and CEO of PFA Allan Polack.

Both Climate, Energy and Utilities Minister Dan Jørgensen (S) and the Danish Energy Agency reject the criticism from the VindØ consortium, which also does not receive support from the other collaboration, consisting of Ørsted and ATP, which has so far announced that they will bid to build the energy island. Mogens Hagelskær, responsible for the energy islands at the Danish Energy Agency, believes that the idea that the first phase of the energy island should already be completed in 2027 seems "extremely forced".
